Board members and executives of DML represent a unique combination of environmental expertise and experiences in the following areas:
* Board of Trustees
Erna Witoelar. Founded and led both Yayasan DML and the Indonesia Forum for the Environment (WALHI). Appointed in October 2003 as UN Special Ambassador for MDGs in Asia & the Pacific, is the former Minister of Human Settlements and Regional Development (1999-2001) and a former member of the National Assembly of Indonesia. Graduated in chemical engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, and Master of Science in Human Ecology from the University of Indonesia. A recipient of the UNEP Global 500 Award during the Rio Summit in 1992, the Earth Day International Award at the UN in 1993, and the Indonesian Presidential Medal for the Environment in 1995.
Dr. Rusdian Lubis. Chair of the Compliance Review Panel, ADB in Manila, a body that helps address the concerns of people affected by ADB-assisted projects. In 1986, he founded Yayasan Waetasi, a nongovernment organization involved in coastal conservation work in Sulawesi. He has more than 30 years of experience in environmental management. He graduated from Bogor Agricultural University in Indonesia, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Agricultural and Resources Economics from Oregon State University in the United States, and went to Harvard’s Kennedy School of Governmen and Royal Institute of Public Administration, University of Sydney. Among previous positions he held were: Senior Advisor of PT ERM Indonesia, Director/Executive VP-SHE and Govrelsat PT Freeport Indonesia, and Senior Environmental Specialist at The World Bank, Washington, DC.
Rudy Pesik. The founder and chairman of more than 70 companies with 250 branch offices throughout Indonesia and operating in 15 countries. He has also played an active role in KADIN in the Foreign Investment compartment and Foreign Trade compartment. He was elected as first Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), Vice President of ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ASEAN-CCI) and Vice President of Confederation of Asia Pacific Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI). He served as Chairman of the restoration projects for the old city for Batavia (Jakarta) and the greening of Jakarta. Since 2005 he is on the board of INACRAFT/ASEPHI and active in the conservation of Indonesian National Heritage collections. Graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
Noke Kiroyan. Currently owns a consulting firm providing consulting services in the fields of Corporate Social Responsibility. Former positions: Managing Director of Salim Deutschland GmbH in Düsseldorf; Director/Treasurer of Albright & Wilson Ltd. in Melbourne; President & CEO of Salim Oleochemicals Inc.; President Director of the Rio Tinto Indonesia Country Office; of PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and of PT Newmont Pacific Nusantara. Has also served as Chairman of the Commission for Economic Recovery at the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KADIN); President of the Indonesia-Australia Business Council and the International Chamber of Commerce – Indonesia; and member of Business Advisory Council of The United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok in 2004. Graduated in Communications Science from Padjadjaran University; Liberal Studies from Syracuse University; Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.
Muhtadi Sjadzali. Currently owns a company, PT. Envitech Perkasa, is acknowledged to be the leading company in its field in Indonesia. Has more than 15 years experience in the field of both Industrial and Domestic water and wastewater treatment. Has served as a Board Member of LEAD International, a UK-based environmental leadership training institution. Graduated from University of Birmingham on Environmental Science.
Agustanzil Sjahroezah. Currently Vice President HSE PT Energi Mega Persada. Graduated from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government; the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Chemical Engineering Department.
Suwito Anggoro. Currently the President Director of PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI), Deputy Managing Director of Chevron IndoAsia Business Unit (IBU) and Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration & Production Company. Has been working in the oil company since 1979. Holds Master’s degrees in Power System Engineering from Union College, Schenectady, New York and in International Business Management, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and an electrical engineering degree from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Eduard Tjahjadi. Current positions as Vice Chancellor of Tarumanagara University in Jakarta. Lecturer in the Graduate Program of Urban Development. Former positions: Head of Architecture Department at the same University, Vice Dean of the School of Engineering, and Dean of the School. He graduated as an Architect from Technische Universitaet Fridericiana zu Karlsruhe, Germany, specialized in Urban and Housing Design.
* Managing Executives:
Kemal Taruc. Has been in the urban and environmental projects for more than twenty five years as an independent consultant and trainer. Founder of the Graduate Program of Urban Development at Tarumanagara University. Past positions: Lecturer at IPMI Graduate School of Management, Founder of Ecolink Centre for Business and Environment, and President of the Indonesian Association of Planners. Graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with Master’s degree in Risk Management, holds an MBA in Organisational Studies from Rutgers University, took postgraduate training in Action Research at Bath University, also as a Hubert Humphrey Fellow and visiting scholar at Collage of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University, and graduated in urban planning from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). He is also an active LEAD Fellow and 21st Century Trust Fellow (both based in UK) in addition to other professional fellowship in Indonesia.
Dr. Samsuhadi Samoen. Currently as a Senior Researcher at the Agency of Technology Assessment and Application (BPPT), a part-time lecturer at Trisakti University, Department of Environmental Engineering, teaches Water Resources Management, Hidrology, Environmental Modeling, System Planning for the City Environment. Past positions: Head of Water Supply Division, Batam Island Development Authority. Earned a Doctoral Degree in Environmental Science with a dissertation on Groundwater Utilization from University of Indonesia; Master’s Degree in Water Resources from Humboldt State University; and Sanitary Engineering degree from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Nina Meilina Rizal. Currently runs her own company. Formerly as the Director of Water Company in Surabaya, managed training and professional exchanges on water and sanitation with the city of Seattle, USA and with Belgium environment training institution. Graduated from Sanitary Engineering Department of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Dr. Oswar Mungkasa. Currently the Head of the subdivision for drainage and waste at the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas); Principal of Water & Sanitation Policy Formulation and Action Planning Project (WASPOLA), The World Bank and AusAid sponsored project. Also as the key leader in facilitating the establishment of AMPL network on Drinking Water and Sanitation and GTPS, the Task Force for Solid Waste Management, a stakeholder forum of community based solid waste management practitioners. He holds a Doctoral Degree in Economics from University of Indonesia; Master of Urban and Regional Planning from University of Pittsburgh; and Urban Planning degree from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Dr. Verania Andria. Currently as the Indonesian Focal Point for World Wide Views on Global Warming, also as a consultant to Energy Changes Projektentwicklung GmbH, Vienna, Austria, responsible for renewable energy projects, Clean Development Mechanism, REDD and voluntary carbon scheme in Indonesia. Researcher at Department of Bioresources, Austrian Research Centers – ARC GmbH. Conducting scientific research on molecular biology of petroleum oil pollution and nitrogen cycles in soil. Former intern on Cleaner Production & Environmental Management Unit at United Nations (UNIDO) headquarter, Vienna, Austria. Graduated as Doctor in Natural Science (with Excellent remark) in Environmental Biotechnology from University of Natural Resources & Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria, with dissertation on Molecular Analysis on Phytoremediation of Crude Oil Contaminated-Soil. Diploma on Biosafety conducted by United Nations (UNIDO) and University of Chile. Bachelor and Master’s degree from Biology Department, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Irendra Radjawali. Currently as the Indonesian Focal Point for World Wide Views on Global Warming, also works as a researcher and finishing PhD dissertation at Center for Tropical Marine Ecology and University of Bremen, Master’s degree from Universite Paris 1 Pantheon – Sorbonne, France, Faculte de Geographie, Master’s degrees in Urban Planning and Design with a concentration in Urban Design, and in Geotechnical Engineering from Institute Technology of Bandung (ITB). Among past research conducted includes Air Pollution Management in Makassar City, Renewable Energy Mapping Project. Spatial Dynamic Analysis Expert. Coastal and Marine Social-Ecological System, Ecological Footprint of Bandung City, Socio Economic Impact to Land Use Changing, and other GIS application and dynamic modelling.
Achmad Purwono. Trainer and independent consultant on urban management, strategic planning, and human resource development. Teaches at University of Indonesia, Department of Public Administration, Pertamina’s Training Institute for Leadership as well as other management schools in Jakarta. Past positions: Director of HRM, PT Jasa Marga; member of the Maritime Council; lecturer at PPM School of Management. Holds an MBA from Univeristy of Southern California, and urban planning degree from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Dwitjahjadi. Currently in charge for WWF partnership on Coffee Chain of Custody projects and sustainable agriculture in South Bukit Barisan National Park, the habitat of Sumatran Rhinos and Elephants. Has worked extensively as a biologist on variety of environmental projects, ranging from reforestation projects in East Kalimantan, coastal areas development in Tering Bay, Batam Island, Way Kambas Elephant Sanctuary, solid waste composting, and many others. Has worked at the ITB Alumni secretariat for several years. Graduated from Biology Department from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Didik Hariyanto. Currently in charge for urban watershed restoration and reforestation project planning, in a partnership with the Indonesian Scouts for Forest Protection (Pramuka Wanabhakti) and the Ministry of Forestry. Has been working on various business ventures, among those are in the energy sector and in the insurance industry. Holds MBA degree from Monash University and IPMI School of Management, and graduated from Physics Department, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Pratiti NB Pramesti. Currently in charge for eco-venture and environmentally friendly business and industrial products. Has MBA from the University of Western Australia, and degree in Bio Technology from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
